Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and New York Times columnist David Brooks both said former U.S. Rep. Rob Portman (R-Cincinnati) would make a good vice president for John McCain.
Speaking this morning on C-SPAN's Washington Journal, Gingrich said Portman and former U.S. Rep. John Kasich (R-Westerville) would be solid picks for McCain.
Yesterday, Brooks told the Young American's Foundation's National Conservative Student Conference that Portman would be his pick for McCain. Brooks' speech was also televised by C-SPAN.
McCain is an an "antibody to organization" with his experience as a maverick senator and fighter pilot, Brooks said. The gut-player in McCain needs an organizational expert like Portman, Brooks said.
Portman was former director of the federal Office of Management and Budget, as well as U.S. Trade Representative.

Portman Would Make a Great Pick
Rob Portman has been my fave for McCain's VEEP pick since they started floating his name. He has exectuive expereince at OMB and as Trade Rep and can on articulate economic issues better than anyone. I don't think McCain could make a better choice than this able, family man from Cinti.
