UPDATED: Ohio Democratic Party claiming new ad will win election in Ohio

Ohio Democratic Party executive director Doug Kelly is claiming in a release to supporters that a new ad slated to be run by the ODP will win the election in Ohio.

In the pitch to supporters, Kelly said that the party needs to raise money from supporters to begin airing the ad on television on Friday.

The ad hits the Bush administration for what it says have been the effects of their policy on Ohio jobs.

The ad comes on the heels of a conference call September 29 held by Kelly, Ohio AFL-CIO President Joe Rugola and U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown.

During the call, the ODP released a report saying Ohio has lost 1,087 factories and upward of 180,000 jobs during the past eight years.

The report was released as Republican presidential and vice-presidential contenders Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) were in Columbus to rally supporters.

During the call, the Democrats also pitched their support for Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).

The report stated:

According to the report:

  • A total of 1,087 Ohio factories, companies and operations closed over the past eight years, leading to 180,264 job losses.
  • Eighty-three of the state's 88 counties had at least one plant closing or mass layoff since 2001. And at least 286 individual Ohio cities have had at least one shutdown or mass layoff.
  • Cities with populations between 5,000 and 25,000 have lost a total of 64,189 jobs due to 362 plant closings or mass layoffs.
