The campaign of Dr. Victoria Wulsin (D-Indian Hill) weighed in on the $700 billion bailout package proposed by the Bush administration and currently under consideration in the U.S. Congress.
Wulsin is challenging U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) for representation of Ohio's 2nd Congressional District. Businessman David Krikorian (I-Madeira) is also vying for the seat.
Wulsin said that she does not support the current bailout plan. The Wulsin camp said Wulsin agrees that iaction s needed to rescue the nation's financial services sector, but Wulsin said she would not support any bailout plan that did not provide more congressional oversight of the Treasury Department and place restrictions executive compensation for companies who will benefit from the plan.
"The politicians in Washington don't seem to play the same rules we live by and now they are asking American taxpayers to pay for the mistakes of corporate executives on Wall Street," Wulsin said. "Making a smart investment to keep our nation's financial sector up and running is the right thing to do, but it is not our responsibility to cover for the excesses and mismanagement of CEO's."
Wulsin said Congress should also make sure the plan includes help for Americans facing home foreclosure.
"While Congress and the current administration have been asleep at the switch, Southern Ohio is facing record home foreclosure rates," Wulsin said. "Politicians in Washington put themselves first, put money first and put special interests first, but I will not support writing a $700 billion check to Wall Street without making sure government is accountable to the people in my district first."
