U.S. Rep. John Boehner (R-West Chester) was reelected U.S. House minority leader by the Republican caucus Wednesday.
Boehner defeated U.S. Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Calif.), who challenged him last week.
As leader Boehner said he'll continue to fight for conservative ideas.
"I ran for Congress to fight for smaller, more accountable government. This is what drives me. I think we have a unique chance to renew that fight," he said in prepared remarks. "We win the majority by winning the issue and building a majority coalition together one issue at a time."
Boehner said in August that his leadership position would be threatened if Republicans loss seats in the election. The GOP has lost at least 20 seats.
Boehner dodged an early bullet aimed at his position when Deputy Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) decided to run for minority whip instead of leader.
In September, Boehner donated $250,000 to the National Republican Congressional Campaign Committee. Two weeks later Boehner held multiple fundraisers across the country for Republican House candidates.
