Portman going to Republican Governors Association

Rob Portman will appear at the country's biggest, most-influential meeting of the GOP this week in Miami: the Republican Governors Association.

According to the RGA's schedule, the former U.S. representative from Cincinnati will be on a press roundtable with Govs. Tim Pawlenty (R-Minn.), Jon Huntsman, Jr. (R-Utah) and former eBay CEO Meg Whitman.

Portman also addressed the RGA during its June meeting this year.

Portman has said publically he may run for governor in 2010 or 2014. In addition, he said he may run for the U.S. Senate if George Voinovich (R-Cleveland) retires in 2010 or two years later in to challenge U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Lorain).

Portman was President Bush's budget director and trade ambassador before returning to Ohio in 2007. In 2008, Portman was John McCain's chief Ohio surrogate and played Barack Obama in debate preparation with McCain.
